WALKS

We have a range of walks through the glorious Wiltshire countryside which we can tailor to meet your requirements. A few examples are;

• From Woodhenge and Durrington Walls along to the Cursus then the King Barrows down the Avenue and up to the Stonehenge monument. This will give you some spectacular views of the Stonehenge area rarely seen by the million people who visit the site each year. This really is a superb walk with some tantalising glimpses of Stonehenge as you approach.

Time 2 hours. Distance 2 ½ miles.

• Extend the walk from Stonehenge across to the Normanton Down Barrows and on down into the beautiful Woodford valley with some stunning back views to Stonehenge.

Along the way there is some beautiful countryside and some interesting old buildings.

Time add 2 hours. Distance add 4 ½ miles.

• If you're feeling really adventurous (and fit!!) the walk can finish at Old Sarum with its stunning views over the medieval City of Salisbury.

Time 2 hours. Distance add 4 miles.

All times and distances are approximate and allow for commentary on the landscape and its views. The walk can start or finish at any location. Allow an extra hour to walk around Stonehenge.

The full walk will take you through a journey in time of about 10,000years.

Entrance to Stonehenge and Old Sarum is not included. If you wish to finish your walk with lunch we can book a table at a charming riverside pub.

Other walks include a visit to the remains of Clarendon Palace where Henry II and Thomas Becket ended up in a dispute which ultimately led to his murder in 1170 and his very rapid canonization to Saint Thomas Becket. This site is rarely visited, but was one of the most important royal palaces in the 1100's. This is a walk of 4miles and offers some of the best distant views of Salisbury Cathedral.

Our experienced guides will explain the various features on the way and will add a new dimension to your visit. Though the walks are relatively flat with a few slopes they are mainly across open downland and a good pair of walking shoes or boots are essential.
